Before You Arrive

Thank you for taking the time to explore the Getting to Know UChicago new hire website before your first day! You will attend an orientation session soon after you start at the University, but we encourage you to familiarize yourself with the items on the below list even before you join us on campus. We know you are busy during this transition time, so we hope that this short list of things for you to review will help you have a productive first day on the job.

  • Explore this site so you are well prepared for your first days and weeks, and understand what you need to do and when.
  • Shortly after notification of your offer acceptance, you will receive an email message from Workday®, the University of Chicago's HRIS (Human Resouce Information System). To get started, you will need to activate your CNetID (official electronic ID used for accessing email and other University systems). If you are an employee and do not have a CNetID, click here to claim one. Once you have claimed your CNetID, please log into Workday® using your CNetID and password and follow the instructions to complete the onboarding process.
  • Before your first day, you can enter your personal information (ie: maritial status, ethnicty, contact information, emergency contacts, federal tax elections), and complete the Department of Homeland Security Form I-9.
  • Consult the 2017 New Hire Benefits Guide to familiarize yourself with the many benefit options available to you and your family.
  • Review the University’s benefit plans and make a note of any questions you may have. You will receive an overview of the benefits offerings at the orientation session. If you have questions before or after attending the orientation session, call or email the Benefits Specialist at 773-702-9634 or benefits@uchicago.edu. You must enroll for benefits within 31 days of your start date.
  • Explore our Campus Maps resources and visit the Transportation and Parking site for information on getting around campus.
